Dance Audition Information
We are very excited to welcome our invited auditionees to the upcoming Dance Call on Saturday 22 August.
Please read the information below carefully so that you know what to expect and can arrive prepared and ready to perform.
Dance Call
The Dance Call will run for approximately 90 minutes. The session will include:
1. Warm Up We will complete a brief group warm up. Please spend some time warming up individually before the session so that you are physically ready to dance when we begin.
2. Audition Dance We will begin by revising the audition dance provided to you. Please come knowing the choreography. You have been provided with:
• A full-speed run
• A slower run
• A breakdown of the choreography
You will perform the dance in smaller groups. While we are looking at your dance technique, we are also particularly interested in your character, energy, performance quality and strong lines.
3. Advanced Dance For those wanting to stay for the Advanced Dance component, we strongly encourage you to give it a go. Even if you do not consider yourself a dancer, we would love to see you have a try. This may include some corner work to allow us to see particular dance skills, followed by learning and performing an advanced piece of choreography.
4. Tumble/Acro Opportunity There will also be an opportunity for auditionees to demonstrate tumbling skills if they have them. This is completely optional.
What to Bring
Please make sure you bring:
• Water bottle
• Snacks to keep yourself fuelled
• Jazz shoes or sneakers
• Comfortable activewear that allows you to move freely
• No jeans
Most importantly, learn the audition dance before you arrive. If you have any questions or need clarification about the choreography, please bring those questions with you.
A Final Word Before You Dance
We want you to come into the room feeling excited, not worried about being perfect. We are looking for a cast with a strong work ethic, positive attitude and willingness to give things a go. An audition is about showing us your potential, not proving that you are already perfect. And most importantly, show us your character! We would much rather see you perform with confidence, energy and personality than focus so hard on getting every single move perfect that you forget to perform.
We are so excited to see what you can bring to the room and we cannot wait to see you shine!
Your choreographers,
Hayley Moseley and Cassie Pennicuik
